Well Done Senator Clinton.

have you seen the concession speech yet? Well done. you can check it out on MSNBC (or any other news site. i’m sure) i’d post the link, but i’m not sure if the link would take you to the speech or just the video player. so, go google it or something yourself, ‘k?

and you really should.

she had so many wonderful points. i appreciated that she talked about what it meant to be a woman running for president. it seems to me the issue of her being a woman and obama being black have been a bit avoided, or sidestepped, or made by the media to be something bad or scandalous. i know they have been talked about, but i have felt that the way the media has been portraying the issues have been actually going backwards. they have been trying to make a big deal out of race or gender as in “if he is black, will he get the black vote?” or “she’s a woman, so she’ll have the woman’s vote”. yadayadayada.

i’m also speaking as someone who generally avoids news that is not the local evening news or NPR news. everything else, i feel, has an agenda and it’s that agenda of sensational journalism i have been avoiding.

but back to clinton. she talked about how cool it will be having the issues of a woman or black prez be non-remarkable to future generations. it is something that has been very near and dear to me these past few days as i have allowed myself to become fully invested in obama (the truth is i liked him better than hill, but i honestly didn’t care which one became prez). D keeps asking to watch the barack obama videos and he’ll walk around singing “O-BA-MA. O-BA-MA. O-BA-MA.” he taps out the beat on the table, he hums it to himself while making a super-awesome-dino- transformer-lego-spaceship, he sees nothing out of the ordinary about a black man running for president. (well, partially because he has no concept of president and politics) but today, today i am helping to form the little box in his brain where he files away presidential information. today his box is starting to make connections so unlike mine. his box will never hold only white, males as leaders of this country. his box will hopefully never file away our differences of color and sex as something important. these things are not the defining factor about people. i did not vote for obama because he is black, and i was not going to vote for someone because she is a woman.

but what gets me teary eyed, is thinking that i thought i would never see the day when women and blacks were held to the same level as the rich, white male. this is the PRESIDENCY folks. this is too long over due!! i might actually see the day when these things are UN-REMARKABLE! and like she said, THAT will be remarkable!!

we are living in a time that will go down in history for soooo many reasons. this election is but one of those reasons. were we to lose, the history books will recount our fall and self-annihilation under piss-poor leadership.

but WHEN we win…well, history will recall the WORST PRESIDENT ON RECORD being replaced by one of the best.

and it won’t be because he is black.

but damn, isn’t it cool that were are here now? what the fuck took us so long??
